About

They have spent nearly ten years working with over 45 million users to perfect their proprietary behavior change programs. These programs drive meaningful health outcomes and lasting behavior change to lower your healthcare costs. Instead of promising rapid weight loss in just a couple of weeks, Noom promises lifelong weight loss and renewed healthy habits. Noom goes beyond meal plans and tracking calories.

Noom is a psychologically-driven digital weight-loss program that uses an app to deliver support from certified health coaches. Cognitive behavioral therapy, a type of talk therapy used in clinical psychology settings, is the basis behind Noom’s weight loss program.

Noom, contrary to popular belief, is not actually a diet plan in the typical sense. That is, there are no off-limits foods or structured eating windows. Think of Noom as more of a lifestyle shift that involves healthy eating, exercise, and other parts of a healthy lifestyle, including stress management and sleep. Noom uses the color approach to nutrition: It labels foods as green, yellow, or red based on their nutrient density. Every food is given a color, from high nutrient/low calorie Green to low nutrient/high calorie Red.

  • Green – fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and other healthy foods.
  • Yellow – some starches, healthy fats, lean meats, etc.
  • Red – red meats, snacks, desserts, highly processed foods.

The amount of each category you can consume each day will be based on your goals and habits. While you will have to keep unhealthy foods to a minimum, you can enjoy them on special occasions (or any time you have room on your ‘red’ category). This helps to make this a very practical diet system.
